ZOA Concert
Aids Projects

Bikur Cholim
Cites Volunteers

The proceeds of ZOA's 60th an-
nual Balfour Celebration Con-
cert Nov. 1 at the Fox Theatre
will benefit the organization's
two major projects in Israel and
the Masada Summer in Israel
program: the Kfar Silver edu-
cational and vocational campus
near Ashkelon and the ZOA
House in Tel Aviv.
Kfar Silver has a student
body of 950, of whom 220 are
children of new Olim from the
former Soviet Union, Ethiopia
and Argentina They study agri-
culture, the humanities, nurs-
ing and auto-technology.
Underprivileged students are
aided by a Scholarship Endow-
ment Fund established by
Metro Detroit ZOA.
The ZOA House has a mod-
ern theater complex, including
a Yiddish theater and is used
daily for educational programs
geared to the new immigrants.
The Masada Summer in
Israel program took 850 college
and high school students to Is-
rael in 1993. Of these, 34 were
from the Detroit area, 10 of
whom received scholarship as-
sistance by Metro Detroit ZOA.

The Ahavas Chesed Bikur
Cholim organization will hon-
or its volunteers 7:30 p.m. Oct.
25 at the home of Mrs. Judy
Friedman, in Southfield.
The evening will consist of a
dessert reception and the pin-
ning of the volunteers. Ad-
dressing the guests and
volunteers will be Mrs. Molly
Resnick, a former writer and
producer of NBC News in New
York.

Torah Center
Classes, Talk

Bais Chabad Torah Center will
offer two 12-week courses Sun-
day mornings.
The first lecture, which takes
place at 10 a.m. Oct. 24, will
cover the Talmud Baba Metzia.
Rabbi Elimelech Silberberg will
deliver the lectures on employ-
er-employee relations. Both be-
ginners and intermediates are
invited.
At 11 a.m., a course on Jew-
ish mysticism will be offered.
The text which is used is Tanya,
the most definitive work on
mysticism. Students of all lev-
els are invited. For information,
call the Torah Center, 855-6170.
On Oct. 25 at 8:15 Rabbi Sil-
berberg will deliver a lecture on
"The Commandment of Hach-
nosis Orchin" at the Torah Cen-
ter. The lecture is part of the
Monday night series on basic
Judaism. For information, call
the Torah Center.
