IDF Kills Terrorrists
As Attacks Increase

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israeli
forces in the southern Leb-
anon security zone have
killed six belonging to the
Islamic fundamentalist
groups Hezbollah and
Islamic Jihad, organizations
that reject out of hand the
peace accord signed last
month by Israel and the
Palestine Liberation Organ-
ization.
The terrorists, three from
each group, were killed in
two separate encounters
with Israel Defense Force
patrols since the weekend.
The clashes followed other
attempts by Palestinian re-
jectionists to derail the ac-
cord.
Israeli forces intercepted
and killed a seaborne ter-
rorist attempting to enter
Israeli waters on a high-
r speed water scooter. It was
the first such attempt of its
kind.
In addition, there have
been daily attacks on forces
of the IDF and 'its client
South Lebanon Army in the
security zone.
These attacks have come
in the way of mortar shells
and automatic fire directed
from north of the zone, and
land mines planted on roads
patrolled by the IDF and
SLA forces.
No IDF or SLA soldiers
have been seriously injured
in these recent incidents.
Three IDF soldiers were
slightly wounded in the at-
tempts.
In the latest clash an IDF
unit patrolling the central
sector of the zone discovered
a three-man armed gang
making its way southward
toward the Israeli border.
The Israelis opened fire.
In a search of the area at

first light, the Israelis
discovered the bodies of the
three terrorists.
All had been heavily arm-
ed and had a number of ex-
plosive charges with them,
apparently to place at loca-
tions where they hoped to in-
jure Israeli or SLA patrols.
It is believed the gunmen
belonged to Hezbollah.
Following this, reports
from the Lebanese port city
of Sidon said that the Inter-
national Red Cross had
handed over the bodies of
three other gunmen who had
been killed in a clash with
other Israeli forces.
The three slain were said
to have been members of an
Islamic Jihad force led by
Fakhmi Shekhadi. It ap-
peared that they were part of
a gang that fired on Israel
soldiers Oct. 7, close to the
Israel-Lebanon border, near
Kibbutz Margaliyot.
IDF and SLA forces have
been carrying out a wide-
spread search of the area to
search for more terrorists or
bodies.
Those who were killed had
apparently managed to hide
for some time before moving
north out of the zone.
A statement by the Islamic
Jihad for Palestine said four
of its men had been killed in
the shooting, but IDF
sources in southern Lebanon
said only three bodies were
handed over by the Red
Cross.
Although these latest in-
cidents are believed to be
tied to rejection of the Israel-
PLO accord, Hezbollah and
Islamic Jihad have for a long
time been concentrating
their efforts on getting the
IDF and SLA forces out of
Lebanon. -1
