WATCH FOR THE OPENING
OF OUR NEW
KOSHER KITCHEN!
KICKING page75
tion, Mr. Michael was able to
teach theater at a local col-
lege and continue producing
his children's programs.
In 1975, he went into his
own business as a full-time
concert promoter, concen-
trating on dance companies.
He moved on to producing
Broadway shows for the road.
Detroit became a stopover
for many of those projects.
"In 1989, there was a call
out for a new senior produc-
er at Radio City, and I ap-
plied for the position and was
thrilled to get it," Mr. Michael
said. "I've been there ever
since."
While planning for the
traveling anniversary ex-
travaganza, Mr. Michael
made stage size an important
consideration. At the New
York Music Hall, performers
kick up their heels along a
platform that extends 100
feet in width. The average
width around the country is
50 feet.
With each Rockette allot-
ted two feet, the number of
dancers going on tour was al-
most predetermined.
"We build the show so it
fits on every stage scenical-
ly and will look the same in
every town," Mr. Michael
said.
Five trucks carry sets,
lighting and sound equip-
ment and elaborate costumes
designed by Bob Mackie.
"I'll probably visit the pro-
duction in various locations,"
said Mr. Michael, referring to
the more than 40 destina-
tions on their schedule "I
have friends in many cities,
and I'm looking forward to
seeing them and taking them
to performances."
As the remaining Rock-
ettes continue their shows in
New York, Mr. Michael plans
for upcoming productions. A
bachelor, he occasionally gets
away to enjoy tennis, biking
and horseback riding.
"I attend a lot of theater be-
cause I like to keep up to date
on what's happening so I can
bring a fresh point of view to
the Music Hall," said Mr.
Michael.
"I think this road show will
open a whole new world for
the Rockettes, and I just want
to be a part of all that."
"The Great Radio City Mu-
sic Hall Spectacular" will

ish Association for Residen-
