More than 430 patrons attended the event that featured boutique shop- ping. Karen Erlich, Vicki Ingber and Marlene Swarin were donor chairmen of the day. Janie Roth is Sisterhood president. Marilyn Weisberg, Marsha Schaverin, Paulla Eps- tein, Shirley Halprin, Roz Levine, Rhonda Marcus, Mona Dembs, Cynthia Lupiloff, Barbara Horens- tein, Debra Saperstein, Jackie Lorfel and Sheila Schiffer were part of the donor committee. ISRAELI EDUCATION Students from the Israel Arts and Science Academy, a residential high school col- lege in Jerusalem, recently visited the home of Doreen and David Hermelin as part of a fall tour to six U.S. cities. The local program was hosted by Norm Pappas and Academy founders Max Fisher and Ed Levy Jr., who attended the event. The students spoke about their experience at the school. IASA Director Raphi Amram also discussed the school and entertained the group with a musical program on the piano. SINAI CELEBRATES Patrons of Sinai Hospital gathered at Franklin Hills Country Club on Oct. 13 for an evening of fund-raising and friend-raising. The so- cial event, featuring salmon, Chablis and stand-up com- edy by David Hermelin, raised money to benefit the hospital, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. The patron dinner preced- ed the Heritage Ball, a gala of 800 people who came together at the Palace of Auburn Hills to wine, dine, dance and support Detroit's only Jewish hospital. Hosts and hostesses of the dinner included: Dr. Hugh and Cindy Beckman, Bruce and Suzy Gershenson, David and Doreen Hermelin and Mervyn and Elaine Manning. THE HATTER'S 100TH Sy Wasserman and his son, Paul Wasserman, co- owners of Henry the Hatter, celebrated the 100th an- niversary of the Detroit store. Kay Everett, on behalf of the Detroit City Council, issued a resolution inscribing Henry the Hatter as part of Detroit history.
