90s, seats over 125 at tables and
booths, plus seven more at a lit-
tle bar ... Burgundy linen table
cloths are decor-accented with
dark blue linen napkins ... The
booths are beige-padded match-
ing the restaurant's beige walls,
and table chairs are a light blue.
A lot of mirrors and pictures
hang on the walls of Franco's
Cafe, which is a seven-day op-
eration . . . Monday to Thurs-
day, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday,
11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 4
p.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 4
p.m. to 8 p.m.
There's not much better than
chef-owned restaurants when
it comes to show of pride ... The
food is usually very good, as is
the service ... Both complement
each other . . . Service is ex-
tremely important because
what the owner/chef prepares
must be brought to the cus-
tomer exactly so . . . not after
standing, not lukewarm and
certainly not presented without
proper grace.
Franco's Cafe has this very
important combination.
Franco Giorlando never ex-
pected to be the owner of a
restaurant . . . Now that he is,
with wife Anna Maria, after all
these years of gaining cus-
tomers for others, there can be
only one permanent goal for
them . . . to serve the best pos-
sible food at down-to-earth
prices . . . This is their ultimate
satisfaction.
ALMOST EVERYONE
who knew Marilyn Frumkin
was aware of her devout dedi-
cation to the State of Israel .. .
A grove of trees will be plant-
ed there in her memory, and
those wishing to contribute can
call the Jewish National Fund,
557-6644.
IT HAS always been a won-
derful event for so many years,
dating back to the Infant Ser-
vice Group Cherub Balls of days
past . . . For quite a while now
the gals had an annual Cherub
Donor Luncheon, usually cou-
pled with a fine program.
The ISG date is Oct. 21, 12
noon, at Tam O'Shanter Coun-
try Club, with a play directed
by Evelyn Orbach . . . Eleanor
Riseman is program chairper-
son . . . For ticket reservations,
call Ellanore Bronstein, 737-
2766, or Goldie Davis, 851-8634.
WHILE IN Atlanta, Ga., re-
cently, for a short weekend, I
had little time for anything but
being with son Scott, Bonnie
and the kids, Matthew and
Hannah . . . attending Yom
Kippur services at Beth Shalom
Synagogue and breaking fast at
home with them.
But before leaving Atlanta,
we were touted about dinner at
Ippolito's on King's Market in
Roswell and that turned out to
be a pleasant experience .. .
Brother Marvin raved about the
garlic rolls . . . said they were
like Caroni's on Biscayne Boule-
vard in Miami.
Like so many other Atlanta
restaurants, this little spot that
seats around 80 doesn't take
reservations, and the wait is not
short . . . But there's a reason
George and Toni Ippolito have
such devotion . . . Good, family-
style Italian food and service at
reasonable prices, and so cozy
too . . . Linen checkered table-
cloths, linen napkins, walls
filled with pennants, front pages
and pictures, open kitchen fac-
ing the dining room ... plus the
clever idea of giving always-
hungry little children small
pieces of pizza dough to play
with and keep busy molding
while waiting for their food .. .
Only one fault . . . no spumoni
ice cream.
PATTY MCMURRAY, ace
salesgal at The Jewish News,
waxed her personable enthusi-
asm at this week's showings by
Audette Cadillac and Rinke
Cadillac .. . The new 1994
Cadillac DeVille and DeVille
Concours were introduced at
both places on Oct. 4 with re-
freshments and hors d'oeuvres.
A WONDERFUL combina-
tion . . . dressing up your home
and helping a child who needs
a home . . . This is the bottom
line when La Belle Provence
European antique and design
store on North Center Street in
Northville sponsors its Quim-
per Faience event ... It contin-
ues today with a wine and
cheese reception from 6-8 p.m.;
and Oct. 9 until 5 p.m. . . . The
hand-painted Quimper Faience
pottery is from France's Brit-
tany region.
Orchards Children's Services
month is through October with
La Belle Provence donating 10
percent of all sales of Quimper
pottery and Limoges porcelain
boxes to the organization that
provides permanent homes for
youngsters.
Community-ites like Barbara
Goldberg and Amy Willens,
among other Jewish women in-
volved through the Orchards
Family Services, are volun-
teering their time to La Belle
Provence during the Quimper
pottery benefit ... The Limoges
porcelain, Oct. 22 and 23, will
feature over 350 uniquely-de-
signed boxes.
CONGRATS . . . to former
localite Eddie Wolfe, living in
California ... on his 80th birth-
day.
FRIDAY AND SATUR-
DAY evenings through October
will have noted guitar stylist
Dennis "Scorpio" Coffey at
Jacques Demers Restaurant &
Lounge in the Embassy Suites
on Franklin in Southfield. ❑
