REACHING OU'T... AROUND THE CORNER . Outreach carried many meanings for Federation this year. It meant comforting and sustaining those who feel the isolation of poverty and old age, of joblessness and disability. Through Federation's agencies, and with the help of thousands of volunteers, we touched their lives with new programs and new services. Sam Miller and his parents attended the Family Circle Program for Families of People With Special Needs at the Agency for Jewish Education. Below. left and right: From east side and west side, members of the Jewish community of metro- politan Detroit -- in- cluding Ed Golenberg and his daughter Netta and Michael and Barbara Aronow -- came together to celebrate Israel's birthday. Many people who once felt little connection to the community shared a sense of pride and solidarity on the Michigan Miracle Mission and at our local Israel Independence celebration -- two extraordi- nary events that brought us together. That, too, was outreach. For the many divisions and committees that enable Federation to do its work efficiently and well, outreach meant drawing upon new talent from throughout the community. It meant providing meaningful opportunities to serve our people and to derive a sense of personal satisfaction. --- — Ron Klein and Bob Stone were among the Allied Jewish Campaign volunteers reaching out to new contributors.
