something else that too few
top entertainers can boast
. . . He is still humble and
gracious with a deep sincer-
ity .. . David's talent is a
pleasure . . . His humility
most refreshing.
CONGRATS . . . to Sherre
Gladstone . . . on her birthday
. . . to Neil Kalef . . . on his
90th birthday . . . celebrated
with a surprise party in con-
junction with the weekend
wedding of his granddaugh-
ter, Debbie Kalef . . . Neil, a
1992 "Mitzvah Hero" in the
yearly selection by The Jew-
ish News, still volunteers
weekly at Meals on Wheels,
Yad Ezra and Sinai Hospital,
plus attending daily minyan
services at B'nai David Syn-
agogue.
WHAT A WHALE of a
time they must have had .. .
as over 100 members of the
Harry Cooper Family Club
got together recently from
across the country for a week-
end at Ortonville's Camp
Maas.
Seventeen children born in
the five years since the last
reunion were welcomed with
a special ceremony and given
certificates officially includ-
ing them in the family.
Memories were recalled of
the Cooper Drug Stores, fa-
vorite meeting places in the
early part of the century .. .
Regardless of where in the
country the members now
live, all recalled growing up
as active members of the De-
troit Jewish community.
One reunion highlight was
a movie from the marriage of
Marge Cooper to Jerry Rob-
bins in 1949 . . . It was the
first wedding ever held at the
Northwest Hebrew Congre-
gation, forerunner of today's
Adat Shalom Synagogue, in
its new building on Curtis
and Santa Rosa . . . Also cele-
brated was the 85th birthday
of family matriarch Mollie
Cooper . . . Her son, Judge
Stephen Cooper, had his 49th
birthday, while Steve and
Caroline's son Michael Coop-
er became 16.
Rabbi Jeffrey Tigay's fam-
ily arrived from around the
country along with a surprise
. . . Former Detroiter Beth
Jones met Hillel Tigay in Cal-
ifornia, and their engagement
was announced . . . Jennie
Tigay introduced her groom-
to-be, Peter Meyerhoff, and
Mitchell Harris presented his
fiancee, Sandi Britton.
The children of Freda
Cooper and Ben Parker were
a hit of the family talent
show, as a song about the old
Cooper Drug Stores was per-
formed by Dr. Bruce Parker,
Barbara Parker-Ratner and
Harriet Cooper-Parker-Bass
. Judy (Cooper) Hocher and

Priscilla Dickman performed
choreographed songs with
their grandchildren.
Fortunately, everyone was
labeled, both with name
badges and color-coded T-
shirts to identify all family
branches . . . This was espe-
cially important when Steven
T. Cooper's family arrived . .
. saving confusion as to who
was who . . . Steven T. (Dave
Cooper's son and Marilyn's
husband) and Judge Stephen
C. (David L. Cooper's son and
Caroline's husband) were
thusly identified.
Former State Senator
Daniel S. Cooper's kids finally
learned how they are all re-
lated after viewing the 14-
foot-long computer-printed
family tree developed by Max
Miller with Joe Firestone.
When the Cooper family
members get together it's
usually fun time . . . Their
weekend camp reunion was
probably a blast.
JUST PIERRE will be the
musical presentation at
eighth annual black-tie gala
by Michigan Cancer Founda-
tion's Angels, Oct. 16, at the
Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn.
As piano virtuoso Pierre
Fracalanza puts it, the show
will be "A marriage of
acoustics and electronics, pro-
viding listeners with a
glimpse of music in the fu-
ture."
Cocktails by MCF Angels
will be at 7 p.m. and dinner
at 8 p.m. . . .
FORMER LOCALITE

ceive the Wayne State Uni-
versity Distinguished Alumni

Public Schools art teacher is

sultant in Boca Raton, Fla.

her clients' good furniture are
recycled to make apartments
for newly-settled Russian
Jews in south Florida .. .

and fancy pillows and the
Jewish Federation there
turns over the keys to these
people for a new life.
Recently, three apartments
were furnished from Boca
condos of Detroiters Maurie
and Doris Chandler, Jerry
and Rita Keywell, Dr. Carl
and Lori Lipnik, Emory and
