W e are pleased to introduce you to Adi, Detroit's
special angel at Alyn.
Adi, who is 16 years old, was born with
spina bifida, which causes paralysis of the lower body.
He was admitted to Alyn when he was a year old.
Through intense physical therapy, Adi has gradu-
ated through crawling, standing and walking with the
assistance of specially adapted orthopaedic appliances.
A bright student, he has been mainstreamed in a com-
munity school since 2nd grade. A fine athlete, Adi is an
excellent swimmer and Alyn's premier wheelchair floor
hockey player.
Adi is one example of the wonderful kids who live at
Alyn. We in Detroit are proud to sponsor his progress
and thank all of you who have helped us come so far
so soon. ❑

Mission
Statement
A
LYN is an acro-
nym from the He-
brew "Agudah
Le'ezrat Yeladim Na-
chim" (Organization to
Aid Handicapped Chil-
dren). It is Israel's only or-
thopaedic hospital and
rehabilitation center for
physically handicapped
children. It is a non-prof-
it organization treating
and caring for children,
regardless of religion or
ethnic background, suf-
fering either from crip-
pling diseases or from
trauma after accidents.
The ultimate objective
of Alyn Hospital is to re-
habilitate the youngsters
in its care so that when
they leave they are
equipped with skills and
the ability to function in
the outside world as pro-
ductive, and where pos-
sible, independent
citizens. The total reha-
bilitation program at
Alyn Hospital is geared
toward this end and each
department works to
maximize the potential of
every child. !
