olland and Israel last
week signed a bi-
national industrial
research and develop-
ment cooperation agreement
that is expected to open up
joint projects with Dutch and
European companies which
previously feared being asso-
ciated with Israel due to the
Arab boycott.
Holland's Minister of
Economic Affairs Jacobus
Andriessen, who signed the
agreement with Industry and
Trade Minister Micha
Harish, also gave his person-
al commitment to push for
Israel's membership in
EUREKA, the European
Communities' joint industrial
research and development
organization.
H
Minister Micha
Harish will push for
Israel's
membership in

European
Communities' joint
industrial research
and development
organization.
Chief Scientist Yehoshua
Gleitman explained that the
memorandum of understand-
ing sets up a framework
for companies to work togeth-
er with joint financing.
Each side will get money
from its government. The
agreement commits the coun-
tries to 10 joint projects a
year.
Mr. Gleitman said the
Dutch have shown a deep
personal obligation to the
success of this agreement
and brought together a few
weeks ago 50 Dutch compa-
nies with 20 major Israeli
firms to explore potential
joint ventures.
Asked what he thought
about German Chancellor
Helmut Kohl's call for a
Marshall plan for the Middle
East, Mr. Andriessen said he
didn't believe money can
solve every problem. 0
