17: Space-related research is vital in maintaining Israel's qualitative edge in both defense and industry.
Israel is one of only eight countries to produce its own orbiting satellites, one of which is a Technion
student satellite (Gurwin I) which will be launched in 1995.

Medicine, biotechnology and biomedical engineering provide a forum for cooperation among
physicians, life scientists, and engineers. The Technion is one of a handful of technological institutes
with associated faculties in medical research and engineering.

F2 Water resources and environmental sciences offer an arena to draw on the expertise of specialists
from civil, agricultural, and chemical engineering. The Technion has played a crucial role in every
major national water project since the founding of the State.

society, the American Society for Technion (ATS), based in New York City with regional offices across
the United States, has been a vital partner in the Technion's unparalleled growth and achievement for
more than half a century.

The mission of the ATS is based on the commitment shared by its growing network of supporters that
the future of high technology in Israel is at the Technion.
