"It's sad to see the pro- ducers' reaction because one of the most important things all along has been the sense that these guys (the black soldiers) have fought three battles in the last 50 years: to be able to fight in World War II, to have their ac- complishments noted and to have their history recorded correctly. "The producers' reaction does not help in fighting that prejudice" that the veterans have had to face in their effort to be recognized for their heroism, said Mr. Stern. Abraham Foxman, na- tional director of the Anti- Defamation League, said the producers' reaction "is sad. They got caught in a lie and strike out any way they know how." Mr. Foxman said that it is "important that institutions of the caliber of WNET are willing to set the record straight, though it may be embarrassing to them and others to do so." The Rev.
