dream, and it is a growing
company with a future. I
feel like I have died and
gone to heaven."
Daughter of the late
Herb and Belle Cohen (who
owned the Raven Gallery),
Ms. Rosenberg said her first
big career break took place
at Saks Fifth Avenue.
There, she became fash-
ion coordinator. At
Hudson's, she became the
company's first female vice
president for fashion before
she was 30.
For eight years, she com-
muted to Miami as an exec-
utive with Burdines. She
was a buyer for Milgrims.
The Detroit News entered
Brenda Rosenberg into its
Detroit's best-dressed hall of
fame. For years, Detroit
Montlay utilized her exper-
tise as style director.
For a short while, she
even designed her own line
of casual clothes, called
BRAC (Brenda Rosenberg
Adventure Club), that sold
locally at Jacobson's and
Roz and Sherm, and at
department store giants like
Bloomingdale's.
The clothes sold well,
she says, but she couldn't
make enough money to con-
tinue in the business.
She worked with Detroit
Monthly and took up golf,
hung out with her girl-
friends — six months' worth
of retirement stuff. She
wasn't bored. In fact, she

says, she kept just as busy.
She took lots of pho-
tographs, traveled, had a
good time.
Any thoughts of early
retirement ended with that
trip to Europe for Mia.
"I am very lucky," she
says. "A lot of life has to do
with luck."
She doesn't spend much
time reflecting on her past.
Her home is a souvenir of
all the trips she has taken
and of all of the jobs she has
held.
"What is next? That is
hard to say," she says. "This
job with Sam & Libby is my
most important business
thing.
"There isn't anything this
company can't do," she says,
adding sales last year were
$60 million and growing.
Sam and Libby Edelman
hope to open stores through-
out the country. Their shoes
are sold in department
stores in Detroit, but no
'boutique shops solely for
their shoes have opened
here.
■
The company is looking
into licensing opportunities.
And Brenda Rosenberg
plans to stick around awhile
to be part of the growth.
She also wants to design
a comfortable and stylish
pump. Perhaps some high-
heel sneakers.
"I never met a person
who didn't like shoes," she
says. 0
