inai Hospital and
many affiliated doctors
will aid three injured
Bosnians who cannot
obtain adequate care in their
war-torn homeland.
Sinai has joined forces
with the Muslim American
Alliance, a local coalition
dealing with discrimination
and other issues affecting
Muslim Americans. The
Muslim American Alliance
will pay for all transporta-
tion and rehabilitation pro-
grams, and Sinai will cover
the medical expenses, which
are likely to include the cost
of prosthetics, chemotherapy
and surgery.
"This (program) is quite
consistent with Sinai's long-
standing commitment to pro-
vide health care to the gener-
al community," said Phillip
Schaengold, Sinai president
and CEO. "We view it as part
on our ongoing mission."

"There's no
hospital available
for them over
there."

No one knows exactly
when the Bosnians will
arrive, but Mr. Schaengold
said the hospital is in a
"stand-by" position.
Dr. Eduardo Phillips,
chairman of the department
of surgery at Sinai, estimates
the total cost of medical aid
will reach $100,000. Doctors
will donate their time and
services.
He said Sinai physicians
and staff did not debate the
politics of the former
Yugoslavia when making
their decision to help.
"It was very gratifying to
see that there was nobody
who expressed political con-
cern," he said. "From a
humanistic point of view, we
want to take care of people,
period, wherever they are,
wherever they come from."
The three Bosnians who
will arrive here soon are all
Muslim, but organizers of
the help effort say that the
program is not closed to
those of other religions."But
it's our feeling that the ones
in the greatest need are the
Bosnian Muslims," said Zana
Macki, executive director of
the Muslim American
Alliance. 0
