Among the most prominent and successful members of Israel's 40,000 strong Indian community, the Pushkarnas claim that Israel's business climate can be profitable if you're ready to work hard. "There's a lot Israel can offer you," says Reena. "You can reach the top. I know. After nine years, I've come to know even the president and prime minister." Raised in a well-to-do Bom- bay family, with an Iraqi Jewish mother and a Sikh ar- my officer father, hers was an exceptioally happy home. "My father is not Orthodox and he let my mother do as she wishes," says Reena. The Pushkarnas had visited Israel several times, and decided that settling here was their best option. "Although Vinod is not Jewish, he is open and respectful of Judaism. The children are Jewish and this is their home. They will serve in the army when the time comes."
