THE JEWISH NEWS
It is based on a book by Mr.
Shatner and Michael Tobias
called Believe.
William Shatner as
Houdini? Appropriate
casting for a man who be-
lieves in the magic of make-
believe.
Mr. Shatner, however,
doesn't pretend that there is
still a future for Kirk of
"Star Trek."
Has the character con-
quered his final frontier?
"As far as I'm concerned,"
says Mr. Shatner, "my ship
is stored in the garage."
The next generation of
Trekkies will have to con-
tent themselves with what is
out there, including TV's
syndicated "Star Trek: The
Next Generation."
William Shatner's next
project — in addition to his
ongoing stint as host of
"Rescue 911" and his in-
volvement with Marvel
Comics' graphic novels of his
Tek series — may be harder
to realize than most.
He is interested in putting
together an unconventional
convention that has nothing
— yet everything — to do
with Trekkies' commitment
to live long and prosper.
"I would like to have a
convention with some of the
leaders of today to sound
them out as to what the
future will be. A weekend
symposium with some kind
of answers about the future
of our culture."
