became mayor, yet he was a
good mayor when he was

port in the Israel of the 90s.

has never sidestepped battles,

he gets. It is to be hoped that
during the campaign he and
his cohorts will show Mr.
Kollek the respect he is en-
titled to.
His opinion of Mr. Kollek?
Teddy was a good, even a
great mayor in his day. He is
due all honor and respect. He
regards with sorrow that in
his old age Mr. Kollek now
permits himself to be used as
a front for a political machine.
Mayor Olmert would be
delighted to have Teddy con-
tinue for life as president of
the Jerusalem Foundation
which he created and which
has done so much for the city.
In this post he could utilize
his contacts and his personal
charm, but freed from the
burdens of daily adminis-
tration.
