Chupa Event
Is Planned

Detroit's third annual chupa
celebration for eight couples
from the Soviet Union will take
place 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center.
Sample packages of honey
for Rosh Hashanah, kugeLs and
other foods will be provided for
all the guests.
Adel Kozadayev, Rochel
Polter and Tzirel Druk have
undertaken the task of teach-
ing the special marriage laws
to the brides, while Mikvah
Israel will allow the brides use
of its facilities.
On Sept. 5, the seven grooms
will have the traditional Aufruf
when they will be called upon
to have an aliyah at the Torah
reading at the F.R.E.E. Shabbat
service at the JPM at 9:30 a.m.;
it will be followed by a gala
kiddush.
The community is invited to
the chupah and reception
scheduled for 2 p.m. and will
be in the Charlotte Rothstein
Park, weather permitting.
The marriage ceremony will
be performed by eight rabbis of
the community. Rabbi Yosef
Zaltsman, director of the Jewish
Russians in Toronto, will be the
guest speaker and will explain
the marriage ceremony in Rus-
sian. The ceremony will be
followed by dancing and a
dessert buffet. There is no
charge.

AJC Hosts
New Members

The American Jewish Corn-
mittee, Detroit Chapter will
host a new membership pro-
gram 7:30 p.m. September 7 at
the Max M. Fisher Building,
6735 Telegraph Road, Bloom-
field Hills.
The program will feature
attorney Barry Sanders, a
leader in international law and
a partner in the firm of Latham
and Watkins. Mr. Sanders is a
co-chair of Renew Los
Angeles.
