Marc Tanenbaum:
His work is continued.

the importance of the foun-
dation as a way of continu-
ing Rabbi Tanenbaum's
work.
"A man of deep faith and
understanding, Rabbi
Tanenbaum was in many
ways a pioneer," said Car-
dinal John O'Connor, ar-
chbishop of New York, in a
statement.
"Now the foundation plans
to continue the work begun
by Rabbi Tanenbaum,
engaging in a variety of pro-
grams, publications, lec-
tures, etc. I am certain that
the foundation will suc-
cessfully advance the cause
of interreligious affairs,"
Cardinal O'Connor said.
The foundation's advisory
board includes major Chris-
tian and Jewish leaders.
Additionally, the board
plans to recruit Muslims and
leaders of other religious
groups in order to expand
dialogue with those com-
munities. ❑

Orchestra
Cancels Tour

New York (JTA) — The Anti-
Defamation League has ex-
pressed indignation at the
treatment of the Jerusalem
Symphony Orchestra by the
government of India.
The Indian government in-
formed the orchestra that
unless the word
"Jerusalem" was omitted
from its official title, it
would not sponsor the or-
chestra's performances in
Bombay and New Delhi.
The symphony has since
decided to cancel the
planned tour, which was to
be the first by an Israeli or-
chestra in India.
India, a largely Hindu
country with a sizable
Muslim minority, only es-
tablished formal diplomatic
ties with Israel last year. ❑
