Authority Approved

he government recent-
ly approved the estab-
lishment of a small
business authority
aimed at curbing unemploy-
ment through the develop-
ment of small companies.
Prime Minister Yitzhak
Rabin accepted the joint
recommendation to estab-
lish the authority by
Industry and Trade
Minister Micha Harish and
Finance Minister Avraham
Shohat. Mr. Rabin said he
sees this authority as
another means to combat
unemployment.
According to the Industry
and Trade Ministry, the

authority will not act as an
additional bureaucratic
layer, but serve as a coordi-
nating body between organi-
zations active in promoting
small business activities.
The ministers also agreed
to increase funding to the
small business encourage-
ment fund from over $70
million to more than $105
million. Under the fund,
small businesses are enti-
tled to almost $265,000 in
loans under favorable
terms, which the govern-
ment backs with a guaran-
tee for 40 percent of the
loan. 0
