Professor Sredni Speaks At Dinner Benjamin Sredni Professor Benjamin Sredni, director of Bar-Ilan University's C.A.I.R. Institute, (Cancer Aids Immunology Research), will be the speaker at the uni- versity's dinner Sept. 8 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek honoring Dr. Milton and Lois Shiffman. Professor Sredni will serve as director and scien- tific coordinator between Bar-Ilan and the National institutes of Health; he visualized this scientific cooperation. A native of Mexico, Professor Sredni studied at Bar-Ilan. He later worked as a visiting scientist at the NIH in the United States and returned to the university to serve as dean of the faculty of natur- al sciences and mathemat- ics. The award was presented for 25 years of dedica- tion and devotion, which Mrs. Mames together with her late husband Dr. John Mames gave, in support of the Magen David Adorn (MDA) Emergency Medical, Ambulance, Blood and Disaster Service. Red Magen David Honors Gyongyosis Mr. and Mrs. Gyongyosi Joseph and Eva Gyongyosi will receive the Distin- guished Humanitarian Service Award of the American Red Magen David for Israel (ARMDI) at the Dr. John H. Mames Chapter-Michigan Region's annual testimonial dinner dance 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at Adat Shalom Synagogue. The Gyongyosis will be cited for their commitment to the ideas and goals of Magen David Adorn (MDA), Israel's national emergency medical, blood and ambu- lance service. They are Holocaust sur- vivors who emigrated to the United States in 1950; together they established the Arcade Machine and Tool Co. in 1961. They contributed to MDA's leukemia and hemo- philiac fund, provided life- saving equipment and sup- ported the emergency med- ical fund. The Gyongyosis are sup- porters of the Allied Jewish Campaign, Anti-Defa- mation League, AIPAC, Bar-Ilan University, and the Holocaust Memorial Center.
