Driveway Doctor
Moves to Motown
JENNIFER FINER JEWISH NEWS INTERN
Mr. Meisler has watched
his business grow from a
$300 investment to a prof-
itable business which keeps
him working 14 hours a
day.
"We started very archa-
ic," he said. "At first we
were mixing the solution in
drums with a big stick.
Then we got a truck and a
tank and the year after an
agitation machine. Every
year we add something."
Ron Meisler has been the Driveway
Doctor for six years.
A
fter spending the
past year in Israel
interning at the
Knesset, Ron Meisler
is far too busy to think
about how hard the transi-
tion back home has been.
Three days after Mr.
Meisler — a.k.a. the
Driveway Doctor —
returned from Israel, he
already was running his
summer asphalt mainte-
nance business, sealing dri-
veways and parking lots.
Most teen-agers anxious-
ly await their 16th birth-
day in anticipation of a dri-
ver's license. Not Mr.
Meisler. When he turned
16, he was sitting in the
driver's seat of a trailer
that belonged to his new
business.
Now at 21, he has five
employees and is entertain-
ing ideas of franchising.
This fall, he will begin
his senior year at the
University of Michigan,
and he doubts he will seal
driveways and parking lots
forever. He would like to go
to Israel to try his hand at
politics.
"Whatever I decide to do,
the Driveway Doctor won't
end," he said. "I'd love to
franchise it, but we'll see
what happens. It would
make my move to Israel
easier."

At the age of 14,
Mr. Meisler
worked for the
Driveway Doctor
and at 16 he
owned it.
Last summer while he
was in Israel, his brother
was left at the helm which,
according to Mr. Meisler,
really boosted his business.
Once in Israel, Mr.
Meisler had no trouble for-
getting about business.
Instead he was focusing on
his new internship at the
Knesset.
For five months, Mr.
Meisler interned for
Knesset member Limor
Livnat.
Mr. Meisler met Ms.
Livant through the political
student organization he
joined at the Hebrew
University.
He spent most of his time
doing research and
responding to any English
letters Ms. Livnat received.
Although his business is
running smoothly, Mr.
Meisler admits owning his
own company is often diffi-
cult.
"At times it's hard to run
your own business," he
said. "There is a lot you
have to do and there's
nobody to do it for you. I'm
always organizing and
overseeing and there is
nobody to fall back on." ❑
