Bar-Ilan Fellowships
Go To Shiffmans

Dr. Milton and Lois Shiffman
will receive Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity's honorary fellowships at
a gala communal dinner
Sept. 8 at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek. This award
will be conferred upon the
Shiffmans not only in
recognition of their decades of
communal support and
leadership but also for their
long-term friendship with
Bar-Ilan University.
The evening also will mark
the inauguration of the Shiff-
man Program for Clinical and
Basic Research Collaboration
between the university and
the National Institutes of
Health in Bethesda, Md.
The Shiffman Collaboration
Program will allow an ongo-
ing exchange of scientists bet-
ween the institutions in-
cluding post doctorate fellows
and sabbatical faculty, the
recruitment of outstanding
scientists from other institu-
tions, the purchase of state of
the art equipment, the
hosting of national and inter-
national scientific and
clinical conferences, and the
joint clinical testing of pro-
mising new modes of
treatment.
The Shiffmans serve on
both the university's local
board and on its international
board of overseers. Communi-
ty wide, Dr. Shiffman is a past
president of Adat Shalom
Synagogue and has been very
active in the Jewish Federa-
tion of Metropolitan Detroit,

Hillel Day School, and the
Jewish Home for Aged. Lois
Shiffman is a longtime board
member of the Jewish Fami-
ly Service and is one of the
Holocaust Memorial Center's
chief docents.
