KERB KAYEMETH tEISRAEL
ecent rocket attacks from the Lebanese border have killed Israeli soldiers and civilians alike. Children have had
to be evacuated from the area and damage to roads has isolated this already remote area from schools, hospi-
, t2ls and places of employment Past events have shown that any lull in these attacks cannot be considered per-
manent
The Jewish National Fund has relocated 500 children to its Lavi, Tzipori and Shuni Youth Camps. These camps pro-
vide for the needs of immigrant and disadvantaged youth. The transfer and the camp program will cost hundreds of
thousands of dollars.
JNF has also mobilized to repair damaged roads which provide the only access to and from the Galilee region. Workers performing
these repairs are among the 4,500 unemployed immigrants, residents of development towns, and demobilized soldiers who were hired
by JNF as part of the Ministry of Labor and Welfare's recent "instant jobs" program. The extent of the cost of these repairs is not yet
known.
Even in the midst of the bombings, JNF continues its projects to rehabilitate agricultural land, enhance the water supply, and develop
new recreational areas. The Hula Valley water project is proceeding with vigor while the wide scale development of Goren Park in the
western Galilee continues. On the slopes opposite Kiryat Shemona a geological park is being completed — part of the Naphtali Hills
development project.
When the guns are finally silent, there will be many other major projects to be undertaken in order to restore security and quality of
life for residents in northern Israel; and as always, when an emergency hits Israel, the Jewish National Fund is there. Whether repairing
roads, providing water, or seeing to the safety of Israel's children, JNF is undeterred in furthering the many projects which are vital to a
strong and thriving Israel.
In this difficult time, every region, council, and supporter of JNF is being called upon to make a special effort to provide JNF with the
funds needed to restore and strengthen the communities in northern Israel which have been affected by this latest emergency. Won't
you please consider providing some form of assistance in this time of extraordinary need. Please call the JNF offices at 557-6644.
