In "Patterns of American Jewish Philanthropy," Dr. 2 Gary Tobin of Brandeis University noted that the proportion of total donations made to Jewish causes by major Jewish givers has declined dramatically in recent years. Previously, the figure was about 70-80 percent, he said. Today it is between 30 and 40 percent, and few donors have a clear-cut plan for their philanthropy. But did you know radio and TV talk show host Rush Limbaugh has roots in Israel? Mr. Limbaugh just returned from a trip to Israel, where he planted a tree in the Jewish National Fund's Hadassah Forest in Jerusalem. New Yorkers Rabbi Nathan Segal and Nachman Segal, both close friends of Mr. Limbaugh, have been trying for years to get the outspoken host — who has 20 million listeners — to visit Israel. Mr. Limbaugh's father, a biblical scholar, studied Israel and dreamed of one day visiting the country. Before finally convincing Rush to make the trip, the Segals planted a tree in his father's memory at a JNF forest Mr. Limbaugh said the trip has given him a deeper understanding of Israel. "I've met people who have shaped events for the good of civilization, people motivated by goodness and passion," he said. Shown with Mr. Limbaugh at the JNF forest Is Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. 1/202-456-1414 00441/930.4832 1/313-929-6105 00331/26151000 Eger Family Sets Reunion world gathering of the Eger Family ssociation will be held in autumn 1993 in Israel.
