Are you prepared for the High Holiday challenge? We all know that before running a marathon or undertaking any strenuous activity, thoughtful people prepare for the challenge by practicing their skills and building up their endurance. Odyssey Plans Fall Programs Odyssey, sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, Detroit Chapter, announces its 1993 fall line up of pro- grams for Jewish Singles. A preview viewing of the Jewish Ensemble Theater production of Isn't it Roman- tic? will be held Sept. 8. A "Sparkling Hour" before the show will begin the evening. On Oct. 26 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek-B'nai Israel Center in West Bloomfield, Odyssey will gather for a sup- per and seminar evening ex- ploring singles' issues. Odyssey's fall programming will conclude with a forum at the Birmingham Community House Nov. 18 titled "Funny, You Don't Look Jewish .. . Thinking on Your Feet: How to respond effectively to anti- Semitic comments at work and in your social life." For information about these programs, call Carol Dunitz, at 646-7686. Each program has a cover charge and all programs include refreshments and socializing. Why don't we approach our spiritual well-being with the same amount of care and attention that we devote to our quest for physical health and fitness? Many of us fail to prepare for the intensive experience of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, then feel let down and disappointed when the High Holidays don't seem "meaningful." Jewish tradition offers help for this problem (it's not new). It teaches us that during the month of Elul, which leads up to Rosh Hashanah, we should study, reflect, and prepare spiritually for the Yamim Nora'im - the "Days of Awe." In the spirit of this beautiful teaching, the Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish Learning and the Detroit Jewish News present "ELUL: A TIME TO PREPARE" 4 Lectures and one Mini-Course • ALL FREE OF CHARGE • TO ENSURE ADEQUATE SEATING & STUDY MATERIALS, PLEASE REGISTER IN ADVANCE, USING THE FORM BELOW please print NAME(S) PHONE ADDRESS number and street city, state and zip code WILL ATTEND THE FOLLOWING LECTURES IN THE ELUL SERIES (check where appropriate): August 18 August 24 August 31 September 8 WILL ATTEND THE MINI-COURSE, "SPIRITUAL THEMES IN HIGH HOLIDAY PRAYERS": (SEPTEMBER 2, 7, & 9) Please mail this registration form to Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish Learning 21550 West 12 Mile Road, Southfield MI 48076 QUESTIONS?
