tion Cultural Arts Division

Burgh House, Berg and Civic
Center Drive, every Wednes-
day 7 p.m. through Aug. 25
. . . and the Sun Bowl concerts
at 3000 Prudential Town
Center, Evergreen and Civic
Center Drive, Sundays at 7
p.m. through Aug. 29.
People bring lawn chairs or
blankets and listen to some
fine music . . . At Prudential,
the concert is still held even
if it rains, with everybody go-
ing to the indoor atrium.
As an example of the music,
Tom Saunders and his
pop/Dixieland band did the
recent Wednesday night
gazebo concert . . . It was a
real foot-stomping time for
Ben Katzman, who now is
thinking of going back to be-
ing a drummer and band
leader again . . . Iry Brandt,
Phyllis and Milt Tyler,
Seymour and Hattie
Schwartz, Hy Pritz, Mike
Beresh, Elliot Trumbull,
Council folks Sue Goldstein,
Vickie Goldbaum and Pete
Cristiano, and and outdoors

crowd enjoying the licks from
Tom's trumpet and his band.
The Sunday after was wet
outside following a rain, so
Johnny Trudell played his big
band gig to a crowded indoor
atrium as Sophia DeRoven

Suzie Goldstein jitterbugged
to "In The Mood" while Les
Goldstein watched with lov-
ing eyes . . . Joe Glazer, coor-
dinator for the Southfield pro-
gram that has already given
out 1,600 tickets in one year
to people illegally parking in
handicapped zones, did a bit
of twisting himself while wife

Nick Feraru and his Gypsy
Orchestra, with show tunes
and Romanian melodies, is
this Sunday at Prudential
Sun Bowl . . . and the exciting
Mariachi Zuppanan will be at
the Gazebo Aug. 11.

IDEA STARTED when
Max Sosin was rolling Bus 22
riders with laughter on
recent Miracle Mission to
Israel by Jewish Federation
. . . Daughter Sally, also on
the trip with hubby Phil and
Max's wife Ruth, conceived
the thought of a one-man
show with Dad raising money
for the Jewish National Fund
here.
Max will be digging deep
for JNF's presentation of
"Max Sosin," Sept. 2, 7:30
p.m. at Congregation B'nai
David on Southfield, south of
10 Mile . . . $15 admission in-
cludes planting of one tree in
Israel honoring him, plus cof-
fee and cake.
If the late Myron Cohen
could do it so can Max, who
will put on an hour-and-a-half
non-stop performance . . . The
local gent with a million rib-
ticklers was probably telling
jokes when he came to the
United States from Russia as
a 12-year-old umpteen moons
ago . . . Max is a naturalized
U.S. citizen.
SPEAKING OF buses on
the Mission, can it be true
that our bus No. 18 is the on-
ly one that has not had a reu-
nion? . . . If so, I wonder why?
SO MUCH character at a
place like Mario's on Second
Boulevard . . . And such a
neat package of all-around
enjoyment . . . Excellent food,
fine waitpersons like Rheiter
Rice, and pleasant, intimate
atmosphere of total comfort
and relaxation.
Friday and Saturday nights
at Mario's has dancing to
music folks can relate to .. .
and a recent Saturday even-
ing also brought talent from
the tables . . . Dr. Yvan Silva,
"The Singing Surgeon,"
warbled at the mike, dancers
had fun and one of the
waiters sang Latin tunes.
Al and Mary Klein picked a
perfect evening at Mario's to
celebrate son Robert's birth-
day . . . and the dance music
was just right for Dr. Mar-
shall and Dee Shapiro, Edyie
Moss and Lou Gold, plus
other community-ites.-
ALTHOUGH IT has been
sold, Nifty Norman's on Com-
merce Lake Road will con-
tinue as a sitdown restaurant
along with the usual
downstairs catering . . . The
latter will now also be accom-
panied by outside catering as
well. ❑
