His bachelor's degree is in political science and his master's in radio, TV and film, both from the Universi- ty of Wisconsin. He has been a visiting professor of language and culture at Osaka University in Japan and continues to pursue his interests in cross-cultural issues with an active con- sulting career. Galleries Set First Thursday The 12 north Woodward galleries in downtown Bir- mingham will celebrate First Thursday Aug. 5 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. First Thursday is a coor- dinated effort of the 12 galleries to accommodate busy schedules by providing simultaneous openings and extended gallery hours the first Thursday of each month. New paintings, prints, sculpture, photography, decorative and ancient arts, animated art and the art of children's book illustrators will be a part of these openings. Yiddish Concert In The Park The 15th annual Yiddish Concert in the Park will be held 7 p.m. Aug. 1 at Shepherd Park, Church at Northfield in Oak Park. Cantor Harold Orbach and Irina Lekhtman, accom- panied by Zina Shaykhet, will present "A Visit to the World of Oilr Grandparents." The concert is presented by the Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring, Sholem Aleichem In- stitute and Sara K. Gold Philanthropic Fund, United Jewish Charities. There is no admission fee. E
