After all, you believe it is important to keep yourself together and han- dle situations as they come along. But your money prob- lems keep preying on your mind and keep you up at night. For instance, you bought that 24-foot Sea Ray just two years ago and the payments are for 15 years. You have a 30-year mortgage on your home. Will you be able to keep up? Ah. You get a bright idea. Consolidate your loans with one home equi- ty loan and bring the monthly payments down. How could it go wrong? It can. When the bank sees you work for an auto plant that soon will close, they turn you down. Even though your credit is perfect, your job is too unsta- ble, they say. The scenario is a true story, one that seems all too real for Dr. Steven Goren. "Our mission is to work with the business community to humanize the organizational environment." The clinical psychologist gave up private practice nearly 20 years ago to devote his life to helping businesses and their employees cope with change. Corporate America is in a downsizing mode. And as companies continue to shift into low gear by laying off workers and offering early retirements, many like Dr. Goren are brought onto the scene to fix the inevitable: the concerns of scared employees. Goren and Associates has produced specially designed workshops and seminars for more than 200,000 workers in the business world. These include recent joint courses for General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers union that focus on adjusting to the uncertainty of change. "Our mission is to work with the business communi- ty to humanize the organi- zational environment, thereby making it more pos- itive and more productive," Dr. Goren says. Like the thousands of companies in the country < that provide motivational training for employees, businesses contact the —/ Goren group to provide workshops and seminars in stress management, team building, communication, creative problem solving, conflict management and leadership style.
