Court Voids
Immunity Vote

Jerusalem (JTA) — Israel's
High Court of. Justice has
overturned a decision by the
Knesset to strip Knesset
member Rafael Pinhasi of
his parliamentary immunity
so that the lawmaker could
face charges of misap-
propriating funds from the
Shas party.
The court ruled that
Knesset members had not
been given enough time to
study the charges against
Pinhasi, who is the fervently
Orthodox party's treasurer.
Mr. Pinhasi's lawyer has
charged that the Knesset
vote, which took place in
March, was a product of anti-
Shas sentiment and a media
campain against Mr.
Pinhasi.
Another Knesset vote

regarding Mr. Pinhasi's
immunity is expected within
a week. ❑

them, 'What about George
Bush?' " •
Just the other day Walter
Mosley saw a fountain and
that triggered a story and
that's just what he loves.
Among the greatest trea-
sures from his youth are the
hundreds of stories he heard
from family and friends. No
one, he says, tells stories
like blacks and Jews. -
He has a fondness, too,
for travel — "but not being a
tourist" — and good food.
He likes drawing "silly little
abstract things."
And he loves literature,
(Camus' The Stranger is his
favorite) like Dickens and
Twain and comic books,
"anything that will make
me turn the page. The
major job of a writer is to
tell a good story, make the
reader wonder, 'What hap-
pens next?' "
Like that fountain.
"I was downstairs in- the
hotel lobby just now. There's
this big granite ball that
weighs 1 ton or something
like that, and it's sitting on
top of a cylinder of water
flowing from underneath.
"I couldn't figure it out. I
mean, how could that work?
"Then I discovered it's not
a trick, that it's a fact of
physics that if you push
water up to 32 inches or
something like that, at a
certain force, it can actually
hold a 1-ton ball.
"Now that's just the kind
of story I'll tell later." ❑
