place on Monday, travel to
another place on Tuesday
and travel to another place
on Wednesday," Mr. Wilson
explained. "In the summer,
they undergo very intense
scheduling.
"We felt we could take an
act like the Moody Blues
and play them one night at
the Palace and the next
night out there. It works for
them, and it works for us as
well."
The entertainers make
their own travel and hotel
arrangements, sometimes
based on recommendations
of Arena Associates staff.
Many go by plane, while
others have their own, spe-
cially-equipped buses.
To let the public know
about the summer schedule,
The Glass Palace is adver-
tising on radio and in news-
papers and placing
brochures and flyers in
hotels.
Success will be measured
by audience reception, not
profits.
"We want to see if there is
a good reaction from the
local people and if we can
scratch the surface of some
of the people who are up
there for the tourist sea-
son," Mr. Wilson said.
"If we can sort of break
even for this year, I think
we'll be very satisfied
because, since it's not our
place, we will not have
applied our management
philosophy.
"We will not have brought
our people up to run it, and
we will not have made the
improvements that are
needed to make the place
really successful."
Ending the season with
their heads above water
could mean they will be div-
ing into the Charlevoix mar-
ket again next year.
