The American Arabic and Jewish Friends, WKBD-TV and the Choice Group sponsored an essay contest which asked students to define, "What It Means To Be An American of Arabic or Jewish Descent?" The top two winners won $1,500, two students won $1,000, and 12 won $500. Funds for the $10,000 in scholarship prizes were rais- ed at the seventh annual scholarship dinner last spring, which honored Jack Hamady, former owner of Hamady Brothers Food Chain, and Jeannie Weiner, president of the Jewish Com- Munity Council.
