Volunteers Plan
Summer Events
The Volunteer Network of the
Jewish Federation Business
and Professional Women/
Women's Division has sched-
uled opportunities in July
and August for volunteers to
assist human service agen-
cies in the metropolitan
Detroit area.
On July 25, volunteers will
visit Turning Point, a shelter
for women and children who
have been victims of domestic
violence, sexual assault or
homelessness. Tasks at the
3-6 p.m. event will include
preparing and serving a
barbecue dinner and playing
games with young residents.
There will be a picnic lunch
and volleyball game at the
Sarah Fisher Home for
children age 4-14 who are
abused, neglected or emo-
tionally disturbed, 11:30
a.m.-1:30 p.m. Aug. 1.
Network participants also
will help facilitate the
Michigan Jewish Sports Hall
of Fame Games (Special
Olympics) 9 a.m.-noon Aug.
22. One meeting is required
for volunteers prior to the ac-
tivity: 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18.

Fresh Air
Plans Election
The 91st annual meeting of
the Fresh Air Society and
election of officers will take
place 3 p.m. Aug. 15 at Camp
Maas. The event will include
presentations by campers and
a dedication of the recently
completed Zaks Amphithea-
ter, named in memory of
Michael Zaks (1946-1983),
past executive director.
Nominated for a first three-
year term as directors are:
Joyce Blum, Spencer Par-
trich, Irivng Smokler, David
Rosen, Brian Kepes, Diane
Klein, Marshall Hersh, and
Pam Lippitt.
Nominated to complete two
years of a three-year term is
Nancy Handelman. Nomi-
nated to serve a second three-
year term are: Jeffrey Spoon,
Jeffrey Sternberg, Michael
Feldman, and Dr. Darryl
Goldberg. The following offi-
cers are nominated for a one-
year term of office: president,
Jonathan Haber; vice presi-
dent, Edward Lumberg and
Henry Wineman II; treas-
urer: H. James Zack; secre-
tary, Pola Friedman.
