French Group
Opens Office
Paris (JTA) — France's Con-
sistoire, the state- recog-
nized organization catering
to the religious needs of
French Jews, has opened its
new $8.5 million offices.
The new seven-story
building was inaugurated in
a ceremony attended by
Charles Pasqua, French
minister of interior, Jean-
Pierre Bansard, president of
the Consistorie, and Joseph
Sitruk, France's chief rabbi.
Mr. Bansard, who was
elected president of the Con-
sistoire one year ago, has
been criticized within the
Jewish community for
devoting such a large budget
to relocating the Consistoire
while Jewish religious
schools were in deep finan-
cial trouble due to a reces-
sion.
