DISAPPOINTED WITH
YOUR CD? HERE'S HOW TO
EARN MORE, KEEP MORE,
AND WORRY LESS.

in today's food industry,
that's okay. A variety of
ethnic cuisines have
become popular among
American shoppers in
recent years.
Once finicky produce
eaters, Americans have
become familiar with a
number of new fruits and
vegetables, including avo-
cados, eggplants, even
bamboo shoots.
Carmel's roster in-
cludes variations on
familiar products, such as
the Jaffa orange.
"It's a . navel orange, a
little smaller than the
California product, but
also a little sweeter and
more consistent," Mr.
Cohen boasted. Among
the less familiar items are
Sharon Fruits and
Sweetie Citrus.
"Sharon Fruits are
what we call persim-
mons," Mr. Cohen
explained. "Sweetie
Citrus is one of our newer
products, a cross between
a Mediterranean Pomelo
and a grapefruit. It's a lit-
tle smaller than an aver-
age grapefruit and a little
sweeter."
Among the other prod-
ucts Carmel offers are
figs, tomatoes and Galia
melons, as well as herbs
and spices. Many are sea-
sonal and are on store
shelves from September
to March. Cheery toma-
toes are available through
June. Agrexco also offers
organic produce under the
name Bio-Top.
All Agrexco products
are grown in Israel and
flown into New York's
Kennedy Airport for dis-
tribution throughout the
United States, including
the Detroit area and most
of the rest, of Michigan.
While it's a big company,
with offices in France,
Germany, Italy and
Japan, among others, it's
also an organization with
a sense of mission.
"Agrexco itself stands
for Agricultural Export
Company of Israel," Mr.
Cohen said. "It's really
owned by the growers of
Israel. We're working for
the growers. We're a tool,
in a manner of speaking.
The money's going back to
them." 0
