Michael Slomich, head of the
JDL. "He is not fit to be a
teacher. It's a violation of
the students' rights, the
rights of any black, Jewish
or other minority students.

the First Amendment."
Still, according to Mid-
dlesex County District At-
torney Thomas Reilly, it is
not Mr. Rivard's association
with the neo-Nazi group that
is being questioned.
"What is unlawful is any
related behavior, not simply
his association,"
Mr. Zakim of the ADL said
he was encouraged by the
statewide response to the
vandalism. He was par-
ticularly heartened by the
people, Jewish and non-
Jewish, who attended the
April 25 rededication
creremony at the Everett
Jewish Cemeteries.
"We want people to re-
main mobilized," Mr. Zakim
said. "If they can do that
throughout the year, then
when things like this
happen, everyone will know
what to do. The turnout in
Everett shows a sense of
progress, and in the end, this
alliance-building pays off."

Chamber of the United
Nations.
Israel has in the past
stayed away from this com-
memoration, mindful that it
was likely to come under
disproportionate attack for
