The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology
hosted Bus #8 of the Michigan Miracle
Mission. The visit to the 300 acre campus
occurred only a few days after the Technion
signed an agreement with Russia to launch a
student built satellite in 1995. Giora Shaviv,
professor of astrophysics, enthralled mission
participants with an explanation of the project
and exhibited an actual scale model of the
satellite.
Additionally, participants were able to view
the Soviet absorption process directly when
recent arrivals from Russia and other states of
the former Soviet Union who are now
Technion students and professors explained
their new work and studies.
As the bus left for further travel in the
north of Israel, participant Nancy Lash
exclaimed, "This visit dramatically illustrates
the Technion's critical importance to the State
of Israel."

1. The Detroit Chapter's current project, the Detroit Hi-TEIC, employs highly trained Russian scientists
and engineers. A researcher is shown fine tuning a newly developed instrument that will precisely
measure huge masses.
2. The Detroit chapter's most recently completed project, the Beatrice & Joseph N. Epel Michigan

Dormitory.
3. Morris & Renee Rochlin plant a tree in Modi'in.
4. Giora Shaviv, professor of astrophysics, describes Technion's satellite to Susan & Bart Lewis.
