According to sales figures,
it seems to be working.
While never shy about
revealing its country of
origin, Telrad displays a
creative flexibility in high-
lighting its ethnic roots.
Ads in the Jewish press
focus on where Telrad
phones are made; ads in
the "secular" press focus
on the quality of the prod-
uct offered.
"We're trying to improve
our name recognition in
niche markets — doctor's
offices, travel agencies —
industries our systems fit
well, through direct mail
and target advertising," he
says. "I try to get them
from both sides, through
the Jewish press and
through trade magazines."
Telrad's flagship product
is its Digital KeyBX phone
system, one of the few
fully digital systems avail-
able for small-to medium-
sized companies, which
comes with a wide array of
standard and optional fea-
tures including integrated
voice mail; Uniform Call
Distribution, which auto-
matically divides incoming
calls between various
groups of phones in the
office, to avoid backup on
any one phone line; and
KeyNet LAN, which allows
users to network PCs, thus
sharing printers and
providing a phone user
constant access to informa-
tion in the company com-
puter.
In November, Telrad
signed a multi-million-dol-
lar OEM agreement with
Rockwell International to
develop and manufacture
ISDN-compatible tele-
phone consoles for
Rockwell's Spectrum sys-
tem, an integrated call
processing system.
In February, the compa-
ny announced a reseller
agreement with Cortel
Business Systems, by
which Cortel markets and
supports Telrad's complete
line of telecommunications
systems. Since the deal
was signed in October
1992, Cortel has netted
$250,000 in revenues.
