"These kids need to be
part of a larger program.
Nursery education is
important. It isn't an iso-
lated opportunity," Mr.
Gelberd said. "The AJE is
a service entity that can-
not offer the enrichment
of a congregation."
Mr. Gelberd suggested
two options for parents:
shop the various congrega-
tional schools or stick
close to AJE geographical-
ly and enroll at neighbor-
ing Congregation Shaarey
Zedek.
Finances should not be
an issue, Mr. Gelberd
said.
AJE had several pro-
grams, all available one,
two, three, four or five
days a week, for full and
half-days, with and with-
out lunch.
For the 1992-93 school
year, a half-day program,
9 - 11:30 a.m. or 1 - 3:30
p.m., five days a week,

Congregational schools
also offer a variety of pro-
grams, with and without
lunch. Rates vary for
members and non-mem-
bers.
For example, at Shaarey
Zedek locations in
Southfield and West
Bloomfield, a half-day pro-
gram without lunch, 8:45 -
11:30 a.m. five days a
week, will cost members
$1,375 and non-members
$1,825 for the 1993-94
school year. Extended
hours, 7:30 -8:45 a.m. and
3:30 - 5:30 p.m., will cost
$3.50 each hour.
At Adat Shalom, a half-
day program without
lunch, from 9 - 11:30 a.m.
or 12:50 - 3:20 p.m., five
days a week will cost
members $1,300 and non-
members $1,700 in the
1993-94 school year.
Extended hours, 8 - 9 a.m.
and 3:20 - 5:30 p.m., will
cost $3.25 an hour.
Many other congrega-
tions offer extensive pro-
grams. Mr. Gelberd is con-
fident parents will find
appropriate, affordable
nursery education in the
community. ❑
