Dr. Rosenthal Dr. Julian Rosenthal, 65, of West Bloomfield, died June 14. Dr. Rosenthal was a graduate of Wayne State University and the Universi- ty of Detroit School of Den- tistry and practiced in Royal Oak from 1958 until his retirement last year. He was a life member of the American Dental Associa- tion, the Michigan Dental Association and Oakland County Dental Society.He was a member of Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity and served as president of the fraternity at the University of Detroit Den- tal School. Sidney Freedman Sidney Isadore Freedman, 77, of Farmington Hills, died June 8. He was a pharmacist, life member Zionist Organi- zation of America, life member Technion, Temple Beth El and the Michigan Pharmacists Association. Mr. Freedman taught at Cran- brook Institute of Science for 17 years and at Elder Hostel. He was a member of AARP and past member of Adat Shalom. Mr. Hoffman was a member of a small AJCommittee leadership delegation that met with Pope Paul VI at the Vatican in May 1964, when the Roman Catholic Church was beginning to reformulate its relationship with the Jewish people. Mr. Hoffman, who held several positions with the AJCommittee throughout the years, including president from 1969 to 1973, led many of the group's missions overseas, to study conditions of Jewish communities in Eastern Europe and to meet with heads of state. In addition to Jewish mat- ters, Mr. Hoffman, who was a practicing attorney, was also a lifetime crusader in the caused of civil and human rights. Besides serving many local human rights organizations in New Jersey, he was from 1972 to 1975 U.S. represen- tative to the U.N. Huthan Rights Commission, ap- pointed by President Richard Nixon. Mr.. Hoffman was also a member of the Bipartisan Conference on Civil Rights. The official emblem of the State of Israel is not the Star of David. It is the menorah, an ancient symbol of the Jewish people.
