Sybaris Hosts
Mirrors Exhibit

/

"Visions Reflected," a new ex-
hibition, will open at the
Sybaris Gallery running
through June 26. It will
feature mirrors by 12 artists
working in various media.
Judy Kensley McKie's func-
tional mirrors incorporate her
trademark animals --
primitive and fanciful
creatures carved in low relief.
Mitch Ryerson creates
pieces which are often in-
fluenced by something
similar he has lived with or
imagined living with. He uses
color, playful aqrrangement
and anything else he can
think of to make furniture
that is irresistibly inviting
and reasonably functional.
Sally Goodman's mirror of
concrete mosaics creates an
active and festive surface on
her functional wall-hung
looking glass.
Ron Dale's painted wood
and ceramic sculptures
challenge assumptions about
space and truth as reality and
idea.
John Cederquist also makes
illusionary art. He creates
three dimensional objects of
inlaid and painted wood that
impersonate two-dimensional
objects representing three-
dimensional objects.
Sherry Hart created the
smallest mirror in the show,
a hand-held piece of glass
resembling a shamon's tool.
All of the symbolism on the
piece, including the mirror,
have been used by man as
symbols of wisdom.
Susan Shie and James
Acord collaborated on a piece
they call Ve-Ve, which they
say, in voodoo tradition is a
spiritual or spirit-filled object.
Sybaris Gallery is at 301
West Fourth, Royal Oak.
Gallery hours are Tuesday-
Saturday, ii a.m.-5 p.m.
