Two Wayne State University
professors, Richard Elling of
Ferndale and Fredericka
Shea of Detroit, have received
the 1993 Academic Achieve-
ment Award from the Probus
Club of Detroit.
The award recognizes ex-
cellence and acknowledges
the achievements of WSU
faculty members. Founded in
1939, the Probus Club is an
organization of Jewish
business and professional peo-
ple committed to community
service.
Mr. Elling, associate pro-
fessor in the political science
department and director of its
master's in public adminis-
tration program, is an
authority on state bureauc-
racies and administrative
politics.
Ms. Shea, associate pro-
fessor in the College of Nurs-
ing, is active in the field of
AIDS research and education.
A founder and co-director of
the AIDS Research and
Education Program at WSU,
she received an award from
the Michigan Department of
Public Health for "excellence
in continuing education of
health care providers in
HIV/AIDS."

YAD Hires
Jenifer Adler
Jenifer Adler has been hired
as a staff associate with the
Jewish Federation's Young
Adult Division (YAD).
She will coordinate the divi-
sion's outreach, educational
and social programs on behalf
of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign. YAD's membership in-
cludes men and women, from
post-college to age 35.
Previously, Ms. Adler di-
rected the B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization/Jewish Commu-
nity Center Teen Connection
program. She also teaches
Hebrew at Adat Shalom
Synagogue and the Jewish
Parents Institute.
