SWIMSUITS

SUMMER COLORS OF BENETTON.

SUMMER 1993 Benetton and Sisley Collections.

(continued from page 31)

— make sure the suit moves
with you.
• Look for styles that
enhance your body shape. The
most common figure "prob-
lems," according to Robby Len
Swimfashions are the bustline
(too small or too big), the
waistline, the length of the
torso and the hip and thigh
area.
Large bustlines are camou-
flaged by a blouson top, or they
can be flattered with a halter
top. Look for suits with a built-
in bra, underwire construction
and wider straps for added sup-
port.
Maximize a small bosom
with a ruffled or shirred top or
a push-up bustier.
Women with a long torso

can wear high-waisted bikinis
and any suit with high-cut legs.
If a maillot is more your style,
Robby Len makes a Longitude
collection that's 3 inches longer
through the torso.
Tummy control panels and
suits with lower cut legs are
flattering on anyone with a
thick waist. To simply define a
waist, look for anything with
belts, sashes or "V" stripes.
If you want to camouflage
heavy hips and thighs, look for -
a suit with a flirty skirt Or, for
40s-style glamour, try a two-
piece suit with a constructed
bra top and a fitted stretchy
skirt. Also look for suits with
interesting details at the bust
or back to draw the eye up and
away from the hips. ❑

32• SUMMER 1993 • STYLE

Great parties, whether for
business or personal pleasure,
don't just happen. Memorable
parties must be put together with
careful planning and creativity.
When it comes to creating a
business bash, envision the party
from the guests' point of view.
The goal shouldn't be to impress
but to delight guests instead, to
make everyone feel comfortable
and at ease.
PLANNING AND BUDGET
It's important to set a budget
Sometimes extravagant parties
are considered vital sales incen-
tives or recruiting tools. One
must entertain to remain compet-
itive. Big parties might also be
considered when launching a
new product.
On other occasions, reaching a
small, select audience is desir-
able. Therefore, a more intimate
gathering would be more appro-
priate.
Developing a "plan sheet"
helps party professionals work
within guidelines. A party plan
should answer these questions:
What's the reason for the party?
Whom are we going to invite?
What kind of invitation will we
send? Who will help serve? What
will the menu be? What will the
decor and mood be? Is it pre-
arranged sit-down? Or a casual
cocktail gathering? Does parking
for guests require special plan-
ning?

INVITATIONS
What are the components of a
well-designed invitation? Obvi-
ously it depends on the location,
theme and intent of the gather-
ing.
If spouses and guests are invit-
ed, that should be communicat-
ed. If the party's location is a dis-
tance away, a map should be
included or parking directions
should be given. And always state
special dress requirements.
Invitations to more lightheart-
ed business bashes can be reflec-
tive of the mood and theme being
established. Business invitations
may be issued by telephone, by
engraved letter, by mailgram or
by printed invitation. In many
cases RSVP cards affixed with
self-addressed stamped enve-
lopes should be included, as well.
PROTOCOL
Business events should be
treated as social ones. Badges
should be issued for big recep-
tions. Some parties require
receiving lines, and thank-you
notes should always follow the
event within two to three days.
When does a party call for a
receiving line? When there's a
big crowd and many people don't
know their hosts. The number of
people who stand in the receiving
line should be minimal.
Wearing badges also is an
excellent idea for large gather-
ings. The name should be record-
ed without a title unless a person
is a doctor, judge, congressman,
ambassador, clergyman or some-
one whose title should be known
