JCC Programs
Receive Grant

The Jewish Community Cen-
ter of Metropolitan Detroit
has received a grant from the
Max M. Fisher Foundation
for the development and ex-
pansion of program for in-
dividuals with disabilities.
This grant will offer both
specialized programming and
inclusive participation oppor-
tunities within all depart-
ments of the Center's two
buildings.
The Physical Education De-
partment will offer an arth-
ritis swim program, goal ball,
table tennis, sign interpreted
fitness, parent/child swim and
gym and private instruction.
The Cultural Arts Depart-
ment will continue program-
ming with Oakland County
Schools for students who are
visually impaired. A closed
circuit television (electronic
reading and writing magni-
fier) is available at the Maple-
Drake library. Talking books
also will be available in both
libraries of the Center. Sign
language classes will con-
tinue to be taught and a new
art class is now forming.
The Child Development
Center will offer limited in-
clusive opportunities for
children with physical disa-
bilities in its nursery school
at Maple-Drake, camp oppor-
tunities and special events in
the Center's Discovery Room.
The Adult Services Depart-
ment will continue to offer
support groups for adults
with vision and hearing im-
pairments, along with weekly
speech reading classes. A
stroke support group is being
planned. In addition, cap-
tioned feature films are
presented monthly at both
building. The Janice Charach
Epstein Museum Gallery will
offer sign interpreted docent
tours for each exhibit with ad-
vance notice.

Parenting Center
Plans Class

The Eugene and Marcia Ap-
plebaum Jewish Parenting
Center of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek will offer a
class led by Elissa Rosenfeld
7:30-9 p.m. June 7 at the
Parenting Center.
Techniques to help you and
your children enjoy the sum-
mer will be presented. There
is no fee.
