in Shelby Township, suggests
that you may want to call the
Better Business Bureau, the
International Association of
Nannies or the Michigan
Association for Education of
Young Children. And even
though licensing is voluntary in
Michigan , you may want to
contact the licensing board in
Michigan.
Good agencies subject their
nannies to thorough screening.
This often involves a criminal
background investigation, dri-
ving record check, proving a
clean bill of health, and finger-
> printing with the police. Most
agency nannies have previous
child care experience and
many have, or are pursuing,
degrees in early childhood edu-
cation. Most agencies also set
> minimum age requirements for
their nannies, the youngest
being about 18.
Agency nannies usually
undergo brief training semi-
nars that cover topics such as
recognizing childhood illness-
es, age-appropriate activities,
safety, and nutrition. First aid
and CPR training are additional
requirements of some agen-
cies.
Regardless 3f the source you
use to locate help, the going
rate for a live-in nanny runs
from $200 to $350 per week,
depending on the hours and
amount of household chores
involved, and the number and
ages of the children. Live-out
nannies garner roughly $5 an
hour. It is customary to pay
any travel expenses a nanny
incurs getting to and from the
vacation site, as well as her
room and board. Nannies who
live with a family for the entire
summer are generally given
two full days off each week;
those hired strictly for a vaca-
tion can be expected to be
more flexible.
Housework is an issue that

do light housekeeping chores
