t-he Elements
All-weather wicker is enjoying such
enormous popularity that Brown
Jordan, respected maker of every
other conceivable type of outdoor
furniture is finally jumping on board
with its first line in the genre. The
grand daddy of all-weather wick-
er on this side of the Atlantic is
Lloyd Flanders, which first intro-
duced its weather-hardy machine-
made wicker some 80 years ago.
The "wicker" at Lloyd Flanders is
actually wire wrapped with a twist-
ed paper product that is coated with
a weather-resistant material. The
company offers more than ten
styles in its Lloyd Loom material.

Lusty by Henry Link, a division of
Lexington Industries that creates
its pieces in England. The Bill Perl-
mutter showroom in the Michigan

For a more natural wicker look,
consider the 3-year-old 'Weather-
master" line from Lane Venture.
Ws an all natural rattan and wicker
product that is dipped and sprayed
with some eight coats of weather-
resistant finish. The Weathermas-
ter line offers four wicker styles,
including a contemporary modular-
group with armless pieces. Anoth-
er entry in outdoor wicker is Ficks
Reed, which two years ago intro-
duced its first all-weather line un-
der the name Veranda.
By fall, showrooms will be of-
fering Brown Jordan's inaugural all-
weather wicker line, Rain Star,
introduced to the industry in April
at the High Point furniture market
in North Carolina It consists of an
all-aluminum frame with an ex-
truded resin weave. The company
promises little or no maintenance
and a more comfortable "give"
from the plastic weave. Rain Star
