Washtenaw Youth
Go To Games

Twenty-three teen-age girls
and boys from Washtenaw
County are signed up for the
1993 JCC's Regional Maccabi
Youth Games, scheduled for
Aug. 22-26 in Pittsburgh.
There will be 11 basketball
players, nine volleyball
players, two swimmers and
one tennis player.
For the second year,
Washtenaw county will send
a girls basketball team to the
Games. 1992 basketball
players Alexis Tessler
(Huron), Sierra Bloom
(Clague) and Jill Herman
(Huron) will join with Sarah
Beck (Clague), Sarah
Coudron (Greenhills), Flora
Endelman (Clague), Sara
Evers (Clague), Ariella Klein
(Greenhills), Emily Lieber-
man (Clague), Ilana Weaver
(Tappan) and Wark. The team
will be under the direction of
1992 veteran basketball
coach Mark Singer and Josh
Cutler.
A co-ed volleyball team will
be under the direction of
Kristen Sterett, a 1992
graduate of the University of
Michigan who played varsity
club basketball at Michigan
and varsity volleyball at
Wayne State University.
Volleyball players are Naomi
Adiv (Slauson), Rebecca
Coudron (Greenhills), Danny
Friend (Greenhills), Leah
Kasle (Slauson), Leah Mulder
(Wylie Middle School),
Lauren Muskovitz (Green-
hills), Jessie Newman (For-
sythe), Leah Nickel (Tappan)
and Ben Reid (Clague).
Swimmers this year are
Janet Lorang (Greenhills)
and Ilana Singer (Forsythe).
Corey Tessler (Clague) will be
playing tennis.

Soccer Camp
At Maple-Drake

The Detroit Rockers and the
Jewish Community Center
will sponsor two co-ed soccer
camps June 14-18 and Aug.
16-20 at the Maple-Drake
facility.

Golf Outing

Women's American ORT's
third annual golf outing will
be 7:30 a.m. June 21 at Bogie
Lake Golf Course, 11231

Sports Offerings
At Maple-Drake

The opening of the outdoor <
pool at the Maple-Drake
building is set for May 31.
Bubbles the Clown will be in
attendance 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for
a magic show and face pain-
ting. The Oakland County
Skatemobile will arrive with N
150 pairs of skates for rent in
all sizes; Kathy from Plaster-
works will be there with
crafts to paint and decorate.
The Snack Bar also will be
open. The pool hours for
Memorial Day will be 7 a.m.-5
p.m.
The Maple-Drake branch
adult tennis leagues will
begin the week of June 7 for
eight weeks. Matches will be
played in the air-conditioned
Rosenberg Complex. Singles
and doubles will be offered for
all levels. All leagues are one
hour and open to both
members and non-members of
the JCC.
Maple-Drake will offer
several new water exercise
classes in June. Hydrotone is
resistance training in the
water. These exercises build
strength and muscle tone
through controlled fluid
movement. Classes meet for
one hour Monday, Wednesday
and Friday at either 6 a.m. or
9 a.m. To register, call Sylvia
Zukin, 661-1000.
Beginning in June, the JCC
will offer basic level one-step
aerobics classes for new- com-
ers and/or beginning steppers.
The class will be called Sim-
ple Step. Call Arlene Agree,
661-1000, for information on
times and days. No advance
registration is required.

Basketball
Camp Set

Co-ed summer basketball
camps will be offered in two
sessions for 7-17 year olds, 9
a.m.-3 p.m. June 16-18 and
Aug. 16-20 at Maple-Drake.
Coaches Tim Domke and
Barry Bershad will be
assisted by local college and
high school players in
teaching individual and team
skills.
