the Arthur Szyk Collectors
Society to encourage research
and collection of his works of
art.
Arthur Szyk, 1894-1951,
was born in Lodz, Poland. He
studied in Cracow, Paris and
the Middle East. He became
an American citizen in 1941.
Mr. Szyk is regarded as a
leading miniature painter
and illustrator of his times.
Many of his illustrations have
appeared in Jewish religious
books. He also created pain-
tings depicting scenes of
Jewish holidays, the declara-
tion of Israel's independence,
and famous Jewish
personalities.
Mr. Szyk designed postage
stamps for Israel, Liberia and
the Jewish National Fund, as
well as seals and labels for
various charitable and war-
effort organizations.

At 94, Alfred Eisenstaedt is
one of the two remaining
active staff photographers of
the four founding Life photo-
journalists. He is famous for
his portraits of politicians,
princes, movie stars and
Nobel laureates.
