Graduates of the Temple Beth
El Religious School will be
honored at a Graduation
Shabbat 8 p.m. May 21 in the
temple. The students, who
have written and will lead the
Shabbat service, are Erica

Danielle Komer, Shawna
Pastor, Ari Polish, Nataliya
Pukhlik, Robert Simon, Mar-
cie Simon, Helen V. Slavin,
Jason Yourofsky and Inna
Zager. The sisterhood will
host an Oneg Shabbat in
their honor following the
service.
The 1993 confirmation
class will be honored in
ceremonies 10 a.m. May 23 at
the temple. Members of the

Performance By
Bi-Cultural Class
The students of Community
Jewish High School's bi-
cultural Jewish Theatre Ex-
perience class will present
Keshet: The Token of the Cove-
nant 7:30 p.m. May 19 at the
United Hebrew Schools
Building.
The purpose of the class has
been to bring together Amer-
ican and new American teen-
agers to examine Judaism
through theater. The culmi-
nation is the production of a
compilation of songs, stories
and poems exploring the con-
cept of the covenant of the
rainbow.
The teen-agers in the show
are Melissa Bronstein, Ilya
Berkovich, Emily Cohen,
Alex Elkin, Denis Greenberg,
Josh Herman, Todd Horowitz,
Maria Kirzhner, Adam Magy,
Ella Rakitin, Anna Sobolei,
Lisa Wolf. This production
was created and directed by
Community Jewish High
School faculty member Cor-
inne Stavish.
The program is free and
open to the public. Refresh-
ments will be served.
Religious School
Plans For Walk
The third Intercongrega-
tional Religious School Sun-
day Session will be held at
Congregation B'nai David
9-10:30 a.m. May 16. The rab-
bis and cantors of Congrega-
tions Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses, Beth Achim and B'nai
David will present a morning
activity program in prepara-
tion for the Walk for Israel.
The craft activities will in-
clude the making of Israeli
flags, banners of solidarity
and signs for use in the Walk.
Other groups will learn and
perform Israeli dances and
songs.
Buses will then return stu-
dents to the Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses campus and
transport the walkers to the
Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center.
Beth Achim
Plans For May
The Beth Achim branch of the
Congregational Religious
School will hold events for
students and their parents for
the month of May to showcase
the students' knowledge of
Judaism.
On May 17 the Kitah Bet
class will present a Minchah
service. On May 19, the Kitah
Gimel class will present a
model Ma'ariv service. On
May 23 Kitah Dalet will
present a Shabbai Shacharit
service and on May 30 the
religious school and youth
groups will go to Cedar
Point with a special reward
for Junior Congregation
attendees.
USY Chapter
Sets Installation
The USY chapter of Con-
gregation B'nai Moshe will
have the installation of the
1993-94 officers May 22 dur.
ing Shabbat services at the
synagogue.
The elected officers are
president, Ezra Wanetik; vice
president, Lisa Grey; treas-
urer, Laura Grey; secretary,
Devra Wanetik.
Outgoing president, Re-
becca Levenson, will conduct
the installations.
The first university degree
ever granted a Jew in
America was Judah Monis'
Master of Arts from Harvard
in 1723. He later taught
Hebrew at Harvard and
published the first Hebrew
grammar in North America
in 1735.
