YOU'RE COVERED With 1 ur New T-Shirt! Hillel Administrator Resigns At Meeting LESLEY PEARL STAFF WRITER M ore than budgets and curriculum were discussed at Hillel Day School's annual meeting May 10. Executive Director Rob- ert Steinberg announced his resignation. His departure, at the end of the school year, follows a two-year tenure. "It was my decision. And I decided it was time for me to step aside and let someone else do the job," Mr. Steinberg said. Mr. Steinberg added that his interest in the school will remain. He was one of the school's original sup- porters, joining others in the community in signing the bank note for a loan to open Hillel 35 years ago. Mr. Steinberg sat at the helm as the school experi- enced growing pains — the disappointed to see Mr. Steinberg leave the school. "I feel we are losing a vital part of this school," Mr. Gene said. "I like to think that Bob took this school from a ma-and-pa organization to a well-func- tioning business with a $4 million budget in two years." Mr. Gene cited a recently computerized office, upgraded facilities and increased communication with the community as a few of Mr. Steinberg's con- tributions. Hillel will begin a review of its administration and appoint a search committee to locate a successor. Hillel President Martin Gene said he is sad and Safe Place, a shelter for Jewish abused women and their children, is jointly spon- sored by National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Detroit Section and Jewish Family Service.
