Two Louis A. Horowitz Memorial Youth Fund Awards were made. Twenty- three contestants wrote essays on one of three ques- tions prepared by the Na- tional Council of Young Israel Youth Department Commit- tee, who received the essays and selected the scholarship winners. Jonathon Kantor, 16, in grade 12 from Windsor, On- tario, and a graduating stu- dent of Akiva Hebrew Day School, was the winner of the $1,000 scholarship which will further his study next year in Israel. Avi Ebenstein won a $500 award. A ninth grader at Akiva, Avi will compete again next year.
